Three MELBOURNE PACK runners; three top performances at the
Victorian 5000m Championships last night. In 27 degrees/80%
humidity the boys did us proud. In the A race, Dejen
Gebreselassie ran a 22 second PB to come 8th (6th Victorian)
in 14.24, after leading for the majority of the race. It was
a bold display of front running by DJ. Michael Kernahan was
also up against the big boys in the A race and found the
pace challenging after his first 1km split of 2.48. He still
held on for 13th (11th Victorian) just 1 second outside his
PB in 14.50.
In the B race, Dion Finocchiaro ran a blinder in finishing a
close 4th in 14.54, a stunning 30second PB! It was fun
watching this marathoner/ultra man kick home with the middle
distance boys and shows his training is really paying off.
