It was a busy weekend for Melbourne Packers who have
maintained great commitment and spirit to their running as
the festive season hots up.
The Chelsea Bicentennial ParkRun saw Packers Sean and Gayle
volunteering. Plenty of Packers lined up and ran. Alex and
Ed Gibson both ran sub 22 minutes to land top 10 positions.
Fiona Wintle slashed almost half a minute from her PB to be
first female across the line in 22.53. Siorcha Creaton also
ran a huge PB to run 24.58 and be 4th female overall. Kerrie
Gibson cut her PB to shreds with a mighty 25.47. Andrew
Creaton ran strongly for his 26.56. Samuel Gibson and Vernon
Gibson burst through the 30minute barrier for the first time
with their PBs of 29.34 and 29.36.
Meanwhile on Saturday night, three Packers raced in a trail
event at Lysterfield Lake. In the 6.4km race, Sean came 3rd
outright in 23.50. Gayle Evengelista raced her longest event
yet and pranced up and down the hills and technical trails
for an impressive 51.01. She was even able to outrun a giant
kangaroo (supposedly taller than her coach!) and leap over a
deadly snake (she was more concerned about squashing the
snake than the snake biting her!). Simon Glendenning made
easy work of the demanding 12.1k course coming 8th in a
slick 46.45.
On Sunday morning 6 Packers rolled around the Edithvale and
Mordialloc trails on our recently started SUNDAY LONG RUN.
Later on Sunday 21 Packers and their families rocked up to
Trinity Park in Chelsea for a BBQ, with live Brazilian music
keep everyone on their toes.
